Phase 04 · Surfacing & handover
Hard landscaping is the permanent structure of an outdoor space: paths, patios, steps, retaining walls and edging in stone, brick, concrete or timber. It sets how people move around a site and how well it drains and wears.
Civio prepares the base properly, with excavation, levelling and groundworks, then builds the features to the agreed design. On school projects we have delivered footpaths, play areas and kerbs as part of the external works, finished alongside planting and grass.

Common questions
What is the difference between hard and soft landscaping?
Hard landscaping is the built elements, such as paving, walls and steps. Soft landscaping is the living elements, such as planting, turf and trees.
Do you carry out the groundworks underneath?
Yes. Excavation, levelling, sub-base and drainage are done by the same team, which is where most hard landscaping problems are prevented.
Can hard landscaping be part of a larger external works package?
Yes. It is often delivered with surfacing, footpaths, kerbs and drainage in the final phase of our package.
